For Managers: How to Manage Workload with a Small Staff
August 9, 2010 | In: Career
Sometimes, we just have to make do with what we have. If you, as a manager, have a small staff to work with, then make sure they are trained well enough to handle the workload efficiently.
Cross train employees. This means, training people to do several tasks. Not only will this benefit employees, as they will be able to learn and practice new skills, but it will also benefit the company as this will ensure that there is no disruption in workflows, and deadlines.
Sometimes, you can look into temp agencies to help you with some office-related tasks so your employees can focus on the more important ones. Temp agencies can provide you short-term help, especially on peak seasons.
Another option is to hire retirees part-time. You might find it surprising, but experienced retirees actually want to find something to do, even if it’s just for a few hours a day.
If all else fails, then there is no reason for you not to pitch in. When people see you doing work, everyone will try to pitch in as well.
