Increasing Household Savings

A stay-at-home mom can contribute much to the household savings. As the purse keeper of the family, you have the power to control the flow of money in and out of your household. Here are some suggestions on how to gain more savings:

Shop smartly. Do not buy anything beyond your means. And if you can get everything for less without sacrificing quality, then go for these items instead. For example, always have a list when you shop to avoid buying things you don’t need. Do bulk shopping. Use coupons and use them wisely.

Not all “time savers” are good. Cooking meals from scratch instead of picking up take-out food will ensure that your family gets nutritious food, which in turn would help you save on medical expenses.
You can always cook a lot and put them in containers to be microwaved later on.

If you have some special skills, then you can even bring extra income home. If you’re a writer, an accountant, or if you did professional work before becoming a stay-at-home mom, you can still accept part-time work. Having a computer and internet connection at home can help with this.

If you are the creative type, you can always bake cookies and pastries, or knit items, or make gift baskets and sell these goodies online.
