Time Management for Student Athletes
Most films catered to teenagers portray student athletes as jocks who are good looking but dumb. In reality, most athletes have it tough, not only competing in the field, but in the class as well. They need to maintain a certain grade average while training to win in order to keep their sports scholarships. If you are a student athlete, here are some time management tips to make school life a lot easier:
Time is essential so make sure that you have everything organized. Do not lose precious minutes searching for sorting through jumbled lectures notes or a lost syllabus. You don’t need to be anal retentive about it. A simple scheme that would help you know which is exactly what is enough.
Get a large calendar or planner which can help you keep track of important dates and events. You can color code notes such as a red pen for dates for training and games, and a blue pen for academics, or a black one for some personal time.
You may also find yourself more time traveling from one competition site to another. Use the time on the bus to catch up on course reading. You can also bring a laptop or your notebooks so you can study. Use your time wisely.
Work with your peers. Stick together. If you have someone in your team that is taking the same class, then pair up and study together. Compare notes and quiz each other. You don’t have to do it alone, you know.
Which brings us to the final tip – don’t be afraid to ask help. If you think you need to get involved in a tutoring program, then go for it. You can also consult your professors if there are some lecture topics or points that you can’t understand.
