Time Management for Students

School can be cool. You really don’t need to sweat much. You can work hard and play hard as long as you manage your time wisely. Here are some tips on how to do it:

Have a plan. List down all the important stuff you need to do during the day. Mind what time do you need to do them and where do you need to do these particular tasks. Group tasks which need to be doen around the same time and those with locations near one another. For example, you have a class at 8 AM in Building A. You need to return books in the library at the same location. You may have to drop by your professor’s office at 11 AM. But you need to study for your exam the next day. What you can do is go have your class. While waiting for your 1130 AM appointment, you can drop by the library to return books. You can spend the next half an hour or so studying in said library before heading off to your appointment.

Work on a realistic work schedule. If you have a paper that is due next month, why not start on it? Break it into smaller tasks. Make an outline. Research. Write first draft. Review. Write second draft. Review. Write final draft. This way, you won’t have to write a paper overnight and lose precious sleep.

Prioritize which things are needed to be done first so you don’t have to cram everything in one day. Focus on school work during weekdays and rest and leisure during weekdays and weekend evenings.
Schedule everything. Have a planner (electronic or otherwise, as long as the system works, it’s fine) and always write down important deadlines and appointments.

Establish a routine. With a routine, you can easily work other appointments around them by doing adjustments instead of having an indefinite schedule. Try to stick the schedule as much as possible.

Once you have developed these practices into habits, it will not only help you with your school life. But as you graduate into the real world, you’ll find out that these will also help you with work and day-to-day life as well.
