Business Casual Attire
Business casual is often a dilemma for men and women alike. There is always a very thin line to cross between what’s acceptable or appropriate to wear and what is not. Here are a few guidelines for women on what to wear if your dress code at work is business casual:
Casual doesn’t mean sloppy. Make sure that what you are wearing is fresh, crisp, clean, and neat. It should look appropriate even when the company president comes in for a visit. Business casual should be relaxed yet classy.
For women, business casual should not be confused with club attire. Tight and revealing clothes are essentially a no-no.
Pants and skirts should skim the figure but they shouldn’t be tight. Colors must be solid ones. To be on the safe side, invest on clothes in black, gray, khaki, and brown. They are also versatile enough to be mixed and match with tops and accessories.
Skirts should come to your knees when standing, and your thighs must be covered when you are sitting. Slits should just come above the knee, even if you are wearing a long skirt. Make sure that your slips are not showing.
Tailored shirts or blouses are the safest bets, so do tailored knit sweaters and sweater sets. Appropriate materials are cottonm, silk, and blends. Avoid wearing shimmery fabrics. The fit should not be too tight and the cleavage should be aptly covered.
Hoses are not a must but recommended if you are wearing a knee-length skirt, or if you are in more formal environments. Shoes should be leather or fabric in dark colors. Strappy high heels or shoes with chunky heels are too casual.
A conservative watch and some jewelry and scarves are okay. Just don’t flash too much of ‘em bling.
Keep your make-up conservative and natural looking too. Nails should be clean and well groomed. If you use polish, make sure the color is muted.
