For Working Parents: How to Manage the Household

April 20, 2010 | In: Parenting

Here are some tips for busy working parents so they can still do their roles as moms and dads effectively:

Always plan ahead. Place a family calendar in the kitchen or family room. Prepare menus for the week in advance. Prepare inventories as well. These preparations will keep you from forgetting dates.

You’ll also be able to do the necessary preparations for class trips, baseball games, etc. Menus can help you save time by not having to decide what to cook on the spot.

Learn to compartmentalize and prioritize. Stop thinking about work when you’re at home. This will help you do the stuff you need to do for your home and your family.

Prepare a bag in your car with medicine, first aid kit, extra clothing, towels, some snacks and drinking water, books and some kids’ toys. You’ll find it helpful when you suddenly get called in and your child or children have some sort of emergency or another.
