How Not To Join Too Many Clubs in College

May 14, 2010 | In: Education

For students who really live their extra curricular activities, remember that the reason they’ve been named as such is because your main pre-occupation as a student is to study. However, these are also important as supplements to your academic training. In order to have the best of both worlds, here are some tips and advice:

Take things slow. Make sure that you already understand what your course entails and that you’ve already gotten used to your flow as a student before you sign up for any club or organization. And before you do, ask around and research. Learn about the activities done in the club and find out if you can be able to work them into your academic calendar.

Sign up for one organization at a time. This is to prevent you from getting your hands too full on many things. Not only your academics will suffer, but you’ll also neglect your chores from other organizations.

Manage your time wisely and learn to prioritize – meaning academics first. Fighting for a cause or sharing enthusiasm on a common interest is good, but don’t let them interfere your going to classes or studying for tests.
