How to Act Properly in a Business Cocktail Party

June 3, 2010 | In: Food, General, Special Occassions

Do not be intimidated when you get an invitation to a cocktail party. Here are some pointers on how to make sure you act properly and appropriately as you attend the event;

Respond to th RSVP indicated in the invitation as soon as possible. This is being considerate on your part and not to mention a courtesy to your hosts. You can reply to the RSVP, depending on the instructions in the invitation – whether by phone, or a hand-written note to be mailed.

Dress properly. Traditional cocktail receptions usually require formal wear which means women are to wear gowns, and the men in tuxedo or a formal suit. This still depends on what is indicated in the invitation. It can be a more casual affair, where dresses and a shirt can work as well. If you have doubts about this, you may clarify by calling.

Be punctual. This is still a professional event so your hosts will appreciate it if you getthere on time.

Do not forget to mingle with the other guests. As this is a business event, this is your chance to network. Remeber, you are representing your company, so it wouldn’t do you well if you stick to the bar and drink the whole time.

Which gets us to our last point – do not get drink. Nurse your drink in hand and take small sips. Again, do not do anything to tarnish your reputation and your company’s as well.
