When Kids Ask a Lot
What do you do if you have a precocious kid who seems to ask the most embarrassing or most difficult questions that even you can’t think of. Here are some suggestions on how to seem to be more intelligent than your spawns.
If your children are asking the same question over and over, this might mean that they are bothered by something. You as a parent, need to see through the question itself and find the reason why there is a need for your children to ask. Once you find out what is bothering your children, you can now take steps on how to reassure your children.
If your children are asking questions to get your attention, or if your children are simply bored, you can always spend more quality time with them. You can always bring in your children in the chore that you are doing. For example, if you’re doing the laundry, you can ask your child to help you separate clothes according to color. You can also explain to your child why you need to do certain steps to finish the chore.
If your children are asking questions as a delaying tactic, simply go with the flow. Answer their questions patiently but be firm in what you have to do – may it be bath time, or study time. Don’t be frustrated and be manipulated by your children. They will know that they can easily get what they want next time.
If your children are asking about serious topics such as an illness or death, simply be honest and give truthful answers. Be gentle about it but do not give them denials or false reassurances. Honesty will also teach them to own their feelings, making it easier for them to deal with emotions such as hurt and anger.
