How to Attend Business Meetings Properly

Do you want to impress the boss? Aside from doing great in your job, there is nothing more impressive than being able to possess knowledge of proper business etiquette. Why? Because knowing so says something about your professionalism.

Let’s start with business meetings. Usually, etiquette is just good common sense. The idea here is to make sure you practice them so they would come to you naturally.

When attending a meeting, remember the following:

Always be on time. If the meeting starts at 9 AM, then be there by 8:55. This not only shows respect for the person planning and conducting the meeting, but this also shows how organized you are.

Be prepared. Make sure that you have read beforehand all the materials and files that are going to be addressed during the meeting. You may even put questions or highlight key issues on a notebook or a piece of paper. It is always better to give relevant inputs. Don’t forget to bring writing implements so you can take down notes.

Participate. This is why you need to be prepared. When the chairperson asks for feedback, you will have something to contribute. However, whenever you suggest or ask something, make sure that it will be pertinent to the discussion.

Be on your best behavior. This means being polite and attentive. Listen and avoid engaging in conversations with the person sitting next to you.

Don’t forget to thank the chairperson afterwards. You don’t have to do it profusely, a simple thanks with a smile is enough.
