Preventing Eye Strain

For those who abuse their eyes whether for leisure or for work, here are some tipz on how to prevent getting an eye strain.

The best and surefire way to keep your eyes from getting too tired is to take adequate breaks. That is, for at least 5 minutes every half an hour, defocus your eyes from whatever they are trained at. You can also look at a blank wall or even close your eyes for a few minutes.

Control the ambient light. Make sure that your lighting is neither too glaring nor too dim. Either would make your eyes work harder to focus than they should.

If you are staring at a computer monitor all day, make sure that you adjust the contrast level in which your eyes would be comfortable. LCD monitors have less glare so they are a better choice, or you can buy anti glare devices.

Perform simple eye muscle exercises. You can do this by re-focusing your eyes to a distant point and then re-focus again to a shorter distance. You can also close your eyes and gently massage your eyeballs over the lids with the pads of your thumbs.
