Being a Good Waiting Staff
Being a waiting staff requires a lot of skill which can be done by practice. What is difficult is to maintain a good attitude on such a demanding job. Here are some tips on how to be a better waiting staff:
A good waiting staff must be observant. You should take in the parties that occupy the tables assigned to you. How many are they? Are there children? Elderly folks? Etc. This is so you can hand in specialized menus and be able to give extra services such as a high chair if the party has a baby in it.
Smile. It doesn’t matter if you have problems of your own but a good professional waiting staff needs to discard all personal troubles while on the job and focus on providing good service – and this includes building good rapport with customers and maintaining it throughout their dining experience.
Be organized. Formulate a better way of getting and serving of items so that you wouldn’t have to go to and from the kitchen and tables and elsewhere. By being organized, you become quicker and more efficient.
Know when to ask for help. There are days when it can all be overwhelming. Ask for help from other members of the waiting staff. Sure you can keep all the tips but if it would compromise your performance, it’s not really worth it in the end.
