It’s easy to be bitten by the laziness bug when you’re at work and all you do are monotonous and repetitive tasks throughout the day. Here are some tipz on how to be more productive at work:

Plan your tasks ahead. The first thing you do in the morning when you get to the office is to make a list of what you need to do for the day. Taking ten to fifteen minutes to sort out your tasks and make an organized to do list will work wonders for your work schedule. You may begin with checking your e-mails and looking through your in tray. Arrange them from high priority to the least. Now you can work methodologically through your pile throughout the day. Sometimes people get discouraged by seeing at first glance how much work they need to do. By organizing tasks, they soon find out that work doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you do them according to priority.

Be flexible. Sometimes, “emergency” tasks are needed to be done. These dictate that you drop whatever you are doing and finish the new one instead – wrong. What you need to do is to not panic. Take a few minutes to assess the newly-given task and gauge it’s level of priority. Can it be broken down into smaller tasks which you can incorporate or deal along with others? Sometimes, a break in momentum and switching gears can disrupt your whole work mood. If you remain calm and rational, this need not be so.

Avoid distractions such as opening non-work related websites, playing music (unless it increases your productivity), texting, etc. while working. Better yet if you keep your phone on silent mode and check messages only during breaks.
