How to Be Polite to Disabled People
April 22, 2010 | In: Relationship, Self Improvement

Meeting with disabled people should not be difficult. Most of them do not want pity although all of them would appreciate your respect. Here is what you can first meet a disabled peson.
Greet the person with a smile and a greeting, just like you do when you meet people with no disabilities. Depending on the context, you may also offer a handshake. Don’t forget to speak directtly to the person, specially if the person is accompanied by someone.
For people with speech difficulties, don’t pretend that you understand what they’re saying if you don’t. Don’t be patronizing, simply ask them politely to repeat what they said.
For people who are in a wheelchair, or those who have crutches, walkers, and canes. These things are part of their personal space. Keep a polite distance away and don’t touch or lean on these objects unless they ask you to help them.
