The Perfect Family Guest
Are you visiting a close family member, or a long-time friend? Then bear in mind these tipz on how to become the best family guest:
Never wear out your welcome. Stay enough to be able to have a good time, but not long enough to disrupt the family’s routine. No matter how gracious your hosts are, remember that they too have lives of their own that they would much like to have back as soon as possible.
Always inform them of your arrival ( at least a week’s notice). Never drop by unannounced, especially if you are having a prolonged stay. People need time to prepare for a visit such as cleaning the house and buying provisions. Your hosts might also have other plans. So instead of welcoming you with open arms, they might give you the boot instead.
Do your share. You are not staying in a hotel. There are no maids to pick up after you. Make your bed, offer to help with chores, follow house rules, and try not to help yourself with anything you want in the refrigerator. Another thing, let your hosts know that they needn’t worry entertaining you.
Thank your hosts and extend an invitation to your own home. Better if you can give a present before you leave. You can also offer to take your host to dinner or lunch before you leave as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
