Buying Socks
Buying socks can be taken for granted by many. But as our feet are one of the most abused parts of our body, one has to make sure that our footwear should be comfortable. Here are some pointers on how to purchase the right socks:
Most sock manufacturers group socks to 3 sizes - small, medium, and large. Stores do not allow customers to try socks on so for a better fit, here’s what you do. Take off your shoe and turn it over in your hand. Hold the heel of the socks to the heel of the shoe. If the tip of the sock reaches the tip of the shoe, then it is a perfect fit.
Choose socks that are made of natural materials. These will allow your feet to breathe and to not sweat too much. For those who worry about itching, the most obvious choice of course is cotton.
Sure you can buy socks in different colors. But the general rule is that darker colored socks should be worn with dark colored slacks and jeans. These are also more appropriate for more formal settings.
Socks do come in different styles. Thin black or navy blue dress socks are best for business and formal wear. Thick, double layered socks are best worn with thick boots during winter.
