Slippered Feet Caring for Blisters

Blisters can be caused by many things. It can be sunburn, minor injuries, friction (for example, the blister on your heel from breaking in new shoes), and pressure. Although it can be painful and annoying, blisters can heal quickly. Just try to prevent them from getting infected.

Make sure that the blister and its surrounding area is clean. You can wash it with soap and water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Although there are bandages specially made for blisters, you can also use moleskin. Just cut a piece of it in a doughnut shape. Place it gently over the blister so it can keep the pressure off of it. Do not pop a blister because it will only be more prone to infection.

If the blister needs to be popped, use a sterilized needle and puncture it gently in a few places at the base. If the blister breaks down or if you need to pop it, clean the area with soap and water. Dab a bit of Betadine. Do not peel the skin off. Cover the exposed blister with dry sterile gauze. Change the gauze daily until the blister heals.

If you see redness or if a pus develops, go to the doctor. Your blister has an infection.
