May 3, 2010 | In: Education, Parenting

One option for working parents to make sure that their kids are safe while they’re at work is to put them in daycare. But how do you choose a good daycare center for your kids?

The daycare should be secure. Check how the daycare’s location. Is it a safe place? What are the daycare’s policies when it comes to your children’s security. This is important as you want to feel at ease when you leave your child there.

Check the workers. Are they good with children? Observe classes and see how the workers interact with kids. Make sure that the workers are capable and caring. Don’t forget to find out if the staff to children ratio. If the staff is fewer than the number of children, chances are, not all the needs of the children are met equally.

Check the daycare activities. If you wish to have your kids develop skills, then see if the daycare offers such activities.

Check if the daycare operates on hours that work for you. Remember, that daycare centers have operating hours as well. Many charge extra if children are left in their care beyond that permitted.

Make sure that you can afford the services.
