Cleaning a Garage

Here are some tipz on how to clean a garage and keep it organized and clear of unwanted trash.

The first thing you need to do is to throw everything that needs to be thrown out. Take all the things inside the garage outside and sort them into 3 groups – trash, things that can be sold or given away, and hazardous waste. Find out how hazardous waste is disposed of in your city and notify appropriate contacts to get rid of your hazardous pile. Put all trash in garbage bags ad put them out on garbage day. As for the pile which you can sell or donate, put items on eBay or Craigslist , or give them away as soon as possible. Don’t procrastinate or soon you’ll be piling up stuff in your garage again.

After throwing the unwanted stuff, make an inventory of the useful ones you have left. Look for or buy storage solutions for these things. You can buy shelving systems, organizers, and racks or brackets.  Clean all things before placing them in storage. Label boxes and storage spaces to aid you when you start looking for items later on.

Before you install storage spaces, get your broom and other cleaning aids and scrub the garage floor. Wipe away the dust and clean the windows until they glisten. If your garage has concrete flooring, you can refer to this Tipz article for proper cleaning.

Once everything is spic and span, move all the stuff back inside the garage and make sure you don’t just pile them haphazardly where you can’t get to anything when you want to find a particular object.
