How to Clean an Electric Kettle

August 18, 2010 | In: Cleaning

To keep electric kettles from collecting water deposits at the bottom (which make it harder to clean them), remember to never leave water in your kettle. Always empty it out after every use. If you wish to save on water, then simply collect the water from the kettl and use it for washing dishes, etc. One tip to make sure you don’t waste water and energy is to boil only the amount of water you need.

Clean your electric kettle weekly at the most, especially if you use it every day and twice a month at the least. Use cleaning aids which can easily be found in your kitchen – lemon and vinegar.

Simply fill your kettle with one cup of water and one cup of white vinegar, or two cups of water and the juice of one lemon. Let the water boil. The acid in the vinegar and lemon will get rid of the lime scale that is stuck at the bottom of the kettle. When this is done, you can rinse the kettle and wipe off the bottom with a clean damp cloth. Remember to dry your kettle to dry completely after every use.
