How to Clean Children’s Toys

August 18, 2010 | In: Parenting

Baby’s toys should be cleaned at least once a month, or more frequently if the toys are visibly dirty, especially with food and drink stains.

You would also want to clean the toys when your baby got sick or if any of the family or his playmates got sick. This is to prevent germs from spreading.

When choosing cleaners, especially commercial ones, make sure that you read the labels first. Make sure that they are non-toxic.

If you are afraid to try commercial products, you may use any of the following dissolved in hot water:

vinegar
baking soda
lemon juice

Wipe with a clean cloth or with a cotton pad. If the toys are waterproof, you may soak them in hot water and scrub gently with a clean brush.

Be careful when cleaning toys. Remove batteries from toys which use them.

For plush toys, again, read the label and see if you can just toss them in the washing machine.

Otherwise, have it dry cleaned or hand-washed.
