How to Clean the Oven

February 2, 2009 | In: Cleaning, Garden

Oven cleaning doesn’t have to be as difficult as you imagine it to be. Here are some tips to help you keep your oven spotless:

1. Clean as you go. Wipe up spills as soon as they occur so you won’t have to deal with crusty stains later on.

2. If there are burnt-on grease stains on your electric oven, you can pour one cup of ammonio in a glass or a ceramic bowl. Leave it in you oven overnight, making sure that the oven is cool. Wipe oven in the morning with a solution of one cup ammonia and a pail of water.

3. You may use an abrasive cleanser too just as long as you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands. Always handle with care and follow the safety precautions printed on the label. Cover the floor with newspaper and the oven’s special features (thermostat, knobs, light bulbs, heating elements, etc.) with aluminum foil before the actual cleaning.

4. As for microwave ovens, simply cover the stained spot with a damp paper towel and turn on the oven on “high” for ten seconds. Let the insides of the oven cool a bit and wipe the stain clean.
