Before you do any cleaning, consult your veterinarian first. There are dog breeds such as poodles, also need to have hair removed from their ear canals and it would be dangerous if you do it by yourself.

Use an ear wash formulated for dogs. Again, consult your vet for the perfect wash for your dog.

Get a cotton ball and and soak it with the ear wash. Squeeze out the excess. Gently place the cotton ball on your pet’s outer ear and rub up and down in gentle strokes. If your dog shakes its head, let it. This will shake the excess wash off, preventing ear infection.

Get a cotton swab and dampen it with ear wash. Gently clean the nooks of the outer ear. Clean only the flaps and don’t push too deeply. Leave the cleaning of the inner canal to your vet.
