How to Cope with Job Loss
July 29, 2009 | In: Career, Self Improvement

Remember that no matter what job you are in, nothing lasts forever and that it will have to end one day. Of course, one would always hope to end his or her profession in a more positive light, but sometimes, things don’t turn out the way we want them to be. This however, should not stop you from doing better things. Think of losing a job as a door opening to new opportunities.
Do a little objective self-analysis. Are there things that you would wish to do but never had the time to start? Are there skills that you think you need to develop or enhance? Or probably are there particular personality traits that are not so admirable? This is not so you can drown in self-pity. This is a way to find out how to improve yourself so in your next career, you’d be able to break the cycle.
Don’t be negative, especially vindictive. Badmouthing your previous employer will not help you get a new job. Learn from your mistakes and move forward. Keep your self-confidence intact. Challenge yourself to do better.
Plan your new course and renew your goals. Make new ones if you must. Write it down and find out what you can do to make them happen.
After a little introspection and a new plan, jump back in. Update your CV or resume and refresh your interview skills. Update your contacts and do a little networking. Actively look for work. Engage in creative and useful pursuits while you’re waiting. Be prudent however, and don’t waste money. You’ll need it while you’re still on the look out for new work.
