Effective Grocery List

The key to effective task management is a good list. This is very much true for grocery shopping. A well-thought out and organized list will not only cut your time, doing the actual shopping, but it will also help you stick to your budget. Here are ways on how to make an effective list:

Get a notebook and a pen. Check your inventory. Look into your cupboards, pantry, refrigerator, and freezer. Find out what you need based on what you already have. Keep in mind the items that are consumed quickly and those that aren’t.

Sit down and plan a weekly menu. You can be as detailed as you can. You may even make a spreadsheet on your computer. Or it can be as simple as making a short list of meals and snacks you’ll be having for the next 7 days.

Determine the ingredients you’ll need for this menu. List them down. Add the quantity you’ll need to buy. Next, go through you coupon collection. Determine which ones you can match up with the items you are going to buy.

Now time to write your actual list. If you know the layout of your grocery store well, you can group the purchases on your list according to the sections – produce, meat, fish, poultry, canned goods, etc. This way you won’t have to go from one end of the store to the other.

Don’t forget to write beside each item their estimate cost. You can tally this up so you’ll know how much money to take with you when you do go shopping.
