How to “Cure” Hiccups

January 28, 2010 | In: Featured, General, Health

Hiccups are quite harmless but can be very annoying. If you have an attack of hiccups, you may want to consider the following:

Observe how often and how long you have these hiccup attacks. If you have them often enough and they last for a long time, it might mean that it might be a symptom of an underlying disease. Better go to a physician for this.

If this is the case, then the only way to eliminate hiccups is to correct the disease – which can be through medication, surgery, or other treatments.

The doctor can also prescribe drugs which can prevent hiccups from forming. But this is only given as a short-term remedy.

Home remedies that your grandmothers might have guaranteed as sure-fire ways to stop hiccups can also work. Drinking water, deep breaths, relaxation, or even eating a spoonful of sugar can stop hiccups mainly for diverting the attention of the patient into other things, thus creating a placebo effect.
