How to Cut Breakfast Calories
January 29, 2009 | In: Health
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you can still cut a few calories from your morning meals, then all the better, right? Here are some tips on how to do exactly that:
1. After toasting your bread, allow it to cool a bit. This will keep it from absorbing too much butter.
2. Instead of using super-sweet fruit spread, why don’t you puree fresh fruits such as blueberries, and strawberries? If you’re a bit lazy to do that, you can also try those pureed baby food.
3. Instead of using cheese for your omelet, chop leftover meat and some vegetables. Not only will you save food from spoilage, you can also cut 210 calories off your usual cheese omelet! Another omelet tip: instead of using two whole eggs, separate one egg and use only the white. Keep the yolk in the fridge for future use. This will keep you off 250 mg of cholesterol.
4. Switch from whole milk to skim milk. If you find the taste icky, you can always mix half whole and half skim.
5. Use unsweetened apple sauce or stewed fruits instead of maple syrup over your pancakes and french toast. Use a non-stick frying pan so you don’t need to add fat when frying pancakes or toasts.
