Shelves can be both functional and decorative. You may opt to use them in a room to give it pizzazz while adding space for storage.
Shelves can be placed on empty walls. Just make sure that you balance the height of shelves with the height and width of available space. You can also consider the material of the shelves – wood, plastic, metal, glass, etc.
When considering what to place there, make sure that the elements are compatible. Try to mix and match as long as they don’t look too cluttered or too out of place with each other. Something thin and tall on one end can be balanced by a tall ornamental plant on the other.
Consider shapes, sizes, color blending and textures. Try to find inspiration in the focal furnishing or furniture in the room. For example, if you have a large Asian-inspired rug on the floor, you can have picture frames of the same color, add a small rock garden.
