Downloading using torrents is controversial as many use it to procure pirated materials such as TV shows, e-books, music, games, software, and movies. It is also not a very safe way to get stuff as there are those who upload torrents of fake materials. Here are some tips on how to download using torrents, safely and legally:
Read the detailed information about the torrent. Make sure that whatever you are downloading is for public consumption and not copyrighted or licensed materials.
If you are caught downloading even just one song, consequences can be harsh -such as financial compensation and even imprisonment.
The file size of the torrent should be consistent with the type of material you want to download.
Read the comments on the information page. People who have downloaded the material usually give a review of the torrent. If it’s fake, you’ll know it. If it has problems, they’ll be more specific too. Sometimes the uploader will also reply to problems that users encounter and offer fixes.
Check the numbers of seeders and leechers. These are the uploaders and downloaders, respectively. If a file has a lower number then there might be a good reason why no one is bothering to use that particular torrent for downloading.
