How to Drought-Proof Your Lawn
May 25, 2010 | In: Garden

Here are some easy ways on how to make sure that your lawn stays green during the hot summer days, without spending a lot for your water bill:
Reduce the amount of fertilizer that you use on your lawn. Better yet, stop it altogether. This will slow down the growth of your lawn and will thus need less water to survive.
Keep moisture in the grass by adding a light coat of compost to your lawn. Cover with 1/2 of compost, using a shovel then lightly rake the area to spread the compost evenly.
Mow the grass less so that it will encourage the roots to find more water underground. Don’t forget to aerate your lawn so that water can penetrate the soil better.
Make sure that your sprinkler system is working properly. Set a timer so you don’t waste too much water.
