1. Avoid the beer belly. It’s okay if you get buzzed once in a while, as long as you keep your diet and if you exercise regularly. Alcohol has plenty of calories and can add to several pounds if not kept in check. A drink or two during parties is fine. Just take sips instead of gulps and a couple of drinks can last you hours.

2. Choose light. Instead of draft beer, opt for the light beer instead. If you are ordering alcohol mixed with soda, ask the bartender to use diet soda. Read the labels of alcopops and choose the ones with the least amount of sugar.

3. Be mindful of the snacks you are consuming. We tend to munch on more stuff when drinking so try to stay away from plates of cocktails and bowls of nuts. Get a handful on a paper napkin and stick to that.

4. Find something fun to do – whether hitting the dance floor or talking to a cute someone in the room. Doing something is better than sitting, munching, and drinking.

5. Use an appetizer dish instead of the main course plate. This way you’ll get to pick fewer items from the table. Eat slowly and eat only what you can.
