How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Not getting enough good sleep lately? Perhaps these tips will help you catch more of those much needed zzzz’s:
The Bed
Pillows, mattresses, and beddings. You may perhaps take these items for granted and feel that anything will do, but they actually affect our sleep. There are different types of pillows, mattresses, and beddings and you’ll just have to find which ones are right for you.
There are stores which specializes in these items. They have trained salespeople who can suggest items based on your preferences and even the shape of your head and the condition of your back. Perhaps items from these specialty stores may come off as a little more pricey, but if you are really intent in finding the best, then paying a little extra would be worth it. Of course, try and have a feel of the items first. Don’t just agree with their suggestions. If they don’t feel comfortable, then don’t buy it.
Ambiance
Again, it all depends on your preference. Some people sleep with the lights on, some prefer the room to be pitch-black. Others just like it a little dim. Do you like to sleep with some music on? Or do you prefer complete silence? It’s all a matter of experimenting. Find out which combination works for you.
Bedtime Routine
Formulate a bedtime routine. Pre-sleeping habits or rituals can actually help the mind calm down as routines automatically prepare it for sleeping.
Food and Drink
Avoid eating and drinking before going to bed. The body goes to “work” mode when digesting food.
As for drinking, unless you don’t mind bathroom breaks in the middle of the night, a glass of milk or a cup of tea would be okay.
Relax
If you have time, indulge yourself in a ten minute meditation or a relaxing bath before going to bed. This helps the body calm down. It also eases away the stress that built up during the day. The more relaxed you are, the easier it is to fall asleep.
