Cat Collars
Most cats find it unacceptable to wear collars. However, wearing one is a very good way to visibly identify one’s pet. Here is a guide on how to make your cat feel comfortable enough to wear one.
Make sure that you select a collar that has enough room for your cat to grow into. One that can be adjusted as your cat grows is always a good choice. Remember that cat collars are different from those that dogs wear. They have a safety feature that releases them when the collar gets snagged.
Choose a collar that has a bell so that it alerts small animals, like birds, that it is approaching. It also alerts the owner of its approach. Avoid collars which are too much decorated.
You can opt for one with reflective strips so you can spot your cat if it gets out at night.
Ideally, you should start your cat to wear a collar when it is still a kitten. When putting a collar on, leave some room. Do not fit it very snugly. Measure the space between the cat’s throat and the collar by fitting 2 fingers under the collar. Offer distractions such as a toy. You may want to give your cat a treat everytime you put the collar on.
Keep your cat indoors for several days so you can find the collar if your cat decides to get the collar off.
