How to Get Your Homework Done
March 10, 2009 | In: Education
For the students who seem to find homeworks as punishment, here are some helpful tips on how to get this “chore” done:
First things to do is to keep your annoyance at bay. If you always keep on thinking that homework is tedious, then it will be tedious. You don’t have to force yourself into liking it, but at least be resigned to the fact that the sooner you get things done, the sooner you can do whatever you want.
Next, know thyself. Find out the things that make you work faster, or helps your attention stay focused on the task. Does it help if you have the radio turned on or is it better if you have complete silence? Perhaps you need to eat something first before you can work, because you cannot focus on an empty stomach. Know these things and use them to your advantage.
Set a time for homework. Your schedule is not that busy, and even if it is, you just have to force yourself to do it. For example, you can set your homework time thirty minutes once you get home. This will give you enough time to eat a snack, changed into more comfortable clothes, and rest a bit. Creating a schedule will help your mind to get used to doing this task. Just remember to stick to your schedule. Never, ever procrastinate.
Before you begin the actual homework, organize. Check all your notes for all the homework. Prioritize which should be done first. Make a list and prepare all the things you need for each homework and make sure that they are within arm’s reach.
Do your homework. Take a five-minute break if there are a lot of things to be done. If not, just work until you are finished.
Reward yourself afterward. Get a pint of ice cream from the kitchen and eat it while watching your favorite TV show. You deserved it. Trust me, it will feel all the better knowing that your time is now your own and there is no homework left upstairs for you to do.
