Anything not fun or interesting can seem a chore to toddlers. The key to train your young children to do anything is to make it a game. Here are a few tipz on how to get your toddlers to brush their teeth.

Start them young. Starting early will not give you more time to teach your children the importance of cleaning their teeth. Even without teeth, you can already begin introducing them the toothbrush and demonstrate how to use. You can let your child watch you will you do it. This will let him know that the toothbrush is “safe” and will not hurt him.

Be creative. Buy colorful toothbrushes. There are many toothbrushes made for children and they come in different colors. Some even have their favorite cartoon characters on them. However, choose one that has soft bristles and a soft handle so your child won’t get hurt. Don’t try to force your child to use the toothbrush immediately. Let him or her play with it for a while, just let them get acquainted at first.

Be practical. You don’t let your kid eat spicy food yet, do you? You child won’t be able to tolerate mint. Buy toothpaste made specially for kids. There are many products out there that come in different fruit and candy flavors.

Make it fun. Let your child play with the toothbrush at first. Just let him or her do what he wants with it. Slowly teach your kid by brushing your teeth along with him or her. Your child might not follow you in the beginning. It’s okay. But eventually, when you’ve established brushing as a ritual, your child will eventually try to immitate you, so make sure you’re doing it the right way.

Don’t forget to praise your kid when he or she does it correctly. This way, your child will know he or she is doing it right.
