How to Have a Long Distance Relationship

February 11, 2009 | In: Relationship

Not all long distance relationships are doomed. It may take a little extra effort but if both you and your partner work on it, your relationship may even withstand those of couples who see each other 24-7.

Honesty

Share your secrets.Better if your partner learns them directly from you rather than from other sources.

Communication
Call regularly. But please try do this without being annoying and overbearing. One or two calls a day will do it. You don’t have to keep tabs on your partner all the time. Arrange a time when to call, especially if you’re dealing with different time zones.

Focus on the highlights of your day. Let your partner feel that he or she too is important.

Take advantage of technology. Text sweet nothings. Use instant messaging programs or have a video chat. Just make sure that you do not send inappropriate messages when your partner is at work, we don’t want your message seen by five other people if your partner’s laptop is hooked to a projector during an important presentation.

Understanding
Be selfless. Understand why your partner has to be elsewhere. It’s not only you who finds the arrangement less than desirable. Both of you should give your best to make it work.
