How to Have a Professional Presence
May 3, 2010 | In: Career

Not all professionals act professional. Maybe even only a few are respected because they look and act as they should be. Here are some tips on how to have the professional presence in the workplace:
The easiest way to look professional is to dress professionally. Check the dresscode of the company and follow it. Even if it states business casual or business formal, one must always dress neatly. Clothes should be clean, neat, and well-pressed. This also goes for personal hygiene. Keep your shoes polished, your fingernails trimmed, your face clean (and shaved if you’re male), and your hair combed. For the females, keep accessories and make-up to a minimum.
Communicate professionally. Make sure that you use appropriate language to the appropriate people at the appropriate context. This is true for all medium of communication – e-mail, telephone, written letters/memo, etc. This means, you do not greet your boss with, “Sup?”
Be rational. Do not let emotions get in the way of using common sense during issues and conflicts. One should always think carefully before saying or doing anything. Make sure that you just don’t represent yourself but your boss, your team, and your company as well.
Practice correct etiquette in the workplace. Avoid gossping. Follow the company rules and regulations.
