How to Help Your Kids Overcome Bed Wetting

April 1, 2010 | In: Family

Bed wetting is a natural occurence for kids, especially the younger ones. If you want to teach your kids to control their bladder, here are stuff that you can do:

Do not scold your children. Find out the cause of bed wetting. It can simply be too much liquid intake in the evening. Or it can be a fear. If it is the latter, then eliminate the cause of fear and try to reduce stress.

Make sure that part of your bedtime ritual consists of using the bathroom. Make sure that your child urinates.

Avoid excitement before bedtime, especially if you tell scary stories or let your children watch horror films.

Teach your child to go to the bathroom when he wakes up in the middle of the night and feels the need to pee. If he or she is too young to go to the bathroom alone, you can still keep a baby monitor beside his or her bed and have your child call out “Mom” or “Dad” to alert you.

Give your child time. With your care, understanding, and patience, your child will stop bed wetting soon enough.
