A hug is a way to show someone you care. It can also be an act of affection, reassurance, sympathy or a way of greeting another person. Whatever the purpose it may be given, a hug is a positive act that we should carry on.

The type of hug we give may differ depending on the person we’re giving it to. We hug our parents tightly while we may hug our friends only slightly. A hug given by a boy to a girl can also be different.

Of course, a boy can always give a girl a hug especially if they’re friends. He can do this to greet the lady on a special occasion such as a birthday, graduation or any celebration of victory perhaps in school or at the office. For two people in love and dating, a boy’s hug to a girl is a sign of affection and care. A boy can also hug a girl in an effort to comfort her when she feels depressed.

It’s natural for boys to feel awkward the first time they hug a girl. But when you’re sincere with your action, you can do it right.

Hugging a girl should be done in a private environment. Avoid doing it in public as it can only cause people to stare at you. A quick hug may, however, be more tolerable when done in public. If it’s a longer hug, then do it in private or in a place where there are not many people.

Before giving the hug, smile and ask about her day. Then lean forward and extend your arms in preparation for the hug. Observe signs from the girl so you would know if it’s best to go on with the hug. If she seems uncomfortable, you can just pull back and pat her shoulders or back instead. If you feel she’s excited to see you and would welcome a hug, then that’s the time you go nearer such that your feet are close together. But avoid stepping on each other’s toes.

Now embrace her by putting your arms around her back if possible near her waist. If you’re just friends, a loose hug will do but if you’re dating, you can pull her a little closer to you. If you’re in a relationship, then a firmer hug is appropriate.

Keep in mind to let your arms stay on her back avoiding other inappropriate areas of the body. You can eventually move your arms slightly up and down or in a circular motion as if you’re rubbing her back to make it more intimate. This can take about five seconds for a regular hug but it can take longer for lovers especially those who have not seen each other for a long time.

While hugging, you can also sway sideways or if you feel romantic at that moment, you can also kiss your girl. The kiss, however, can also be given after the hug depending on what makes you comfortable.

To signal that you’re about to end the hug, loosen your arms around her and move slightly away from her. In response, she will normally drop her hands to her sides.
