How to Instill a Love for Reading In Your Kids

Reading and Kids
The number of kids who love to read are dwindling more and more in each generation. Children who develop a love for the written word often have the advantage of building a large vocabulary, and developing fluency. It also has cognitive effects such as in critical thinking.
Start them early. Read aloud to children even if they are still babies (some mothers start even when they’re still pregnant with their kids). When the children are older, you can set a bedtime story ritual until they are old enough to read themselves.
Bring your kids with you when you go to the library or the bookstore. Have them choose a book that they can borrow or buy. If there are story-telling sessions or other activities for children, let them join so they can also meet other kids their age who love books.
Let them make their choice of what to read. Never force them your own preferences. Guide them instead and explain why some reading materials may not yet be appropriate for their age. Discuss instead of avoiding topics.
