Keeping Blood Sugar Level Normal
Blood sugar, or glucose, acts as food for the cells in our body. We get this sugar from the food we eat. To regulate this, our body needs a hormone called insulin which our pancreas makes.
People with diabetes have problems making the right amount of insulin – their pancreas either does not make enough (Type 1 diabetes), or they make too much (Type 2 diabetes). Here are tipz on how to control blood sugar level.
Get proper nutrition. Avoid foods that turn to glucose fast. Samples of these foods are refined carbohydrates such as soda pop, sugar, juices, white bread, cookies, cakes, potatoes, and white rice. Instead, choose food that are made of complex carbohydrates such as whole wheat breads and pastries, vegetables, and fruits.
Get plenty of water. Water is needed by your body for most of its functions. It eliminates toxins out of your body, and if you get dehydrated, your blood sugar level can go up too.
Get physical. Exercise! Engaging in any physical activity will help the body lose extra glucose and may even make blood sugar go lower. About 30-45 minutes of exercise is considered good enough for this to be effective.
Get relaxed. Stress can elevate blood sugar level as your body since having too much tension require additional fuel. If you can’t utilize all these fuel, more glucose stays in the blood.
