How to Keep Pests from Your Garbage

June 22, 2010 | In: Cleaning, Garden, Home

Do you find your garbage always being disturbed by pests and other animals? If yes, then here are some tips on how to keep your lawn or yard clean:

When disposing of garbage, especially those which smell, make sure that you double-wrap it, making sure that it is sealed or tied tightly. You can also deodorize garbage by using mothballs.

If you have the resources, why not build a sturdy-enough and high-enough fence around the area where you store your garbage. Make sure that the garbage can has a lid and when you place the cover, make sure it’s secure. You can add a heavy material on the lid such as a brick, to keep it from getting toppled over. It is not unheard of to have a lock on your garbage can.

You can sprinkle Epsom Salt, or commercial products for this purpose. The latter usually smell like urine of larger animals. These products can fool smaller creatures from getting into your garbage, making them think that there are predators around.

Again, if you have the resources, you can have sprinkles or lighting that are triggered to turn on by motion detectors.
