Refrigerators should not only look clean, they should also smell clean! If you catch a whiff of something unpleasant when you open your fridge’s door, then something should be done!
Never store take-out boxes inside your refrigerator. If you’re going to keep left-overs, make sure that you repackage them in sealed clear containers or zippered transparent plastic bags. Why clear or transparent? So you can keep an eye on them. If you can’t see what’s inside each container at first glance, chances are you’ll forget about them and they’ll spoil.
Wipe clean anything you spill while taking in or taking out food from the fridge. Check cartons and bottles for any leak or spills and wipe them promptly. They might be more difficult to get off later once they’ve hardened, not to mention they might also start to smell funky.
Clean your refrigerator at least twice a month. Bring out all the food and place the perishables inside a cooler with lots of ice. Check the expiration date of bottles and packages. Throw away the rotten fruits and vegetables. Wash all the removable compartments and dry them well. Wipe the inside of the refrigerator with a clean cloth before putting food back in.
Buy a box of baking soda. Remove the top and place the entire box at the back of your fridge. The baking soda will help absrob odors.
