Keeping Your Home Dust-Free
If you or any of your family members are allergic to pollutants such as dust and pollen, then you have make sure that these don’t breach the sanctity of your own home.
Clean your heating and cooling systems. By doing so, you are reducing the amount of unwamted dust that gets sucked into your home. Don’t forget to change the filter. Disposable ones should be changed once they start showing dust. Permanent ones should be washed.
If you are doing yardwork near the system, turn it off. Wait for at least half an hour before you turn it on again so that dust is sure to have settled.
Use a sponge mop or a damp pad instead of a broom. Brooms simply help circulate dust and debris into the air. Vacuum afterwards.
Move flowering plants to where there is less air flow. Better if you can keep them in the yard far from the cooling systems. When watering, spray the plant from the highest point. This will make the pollen settle to the ground instead of flying up and into your homes.
Change sheets and covers. Humans also shed skin and it accounts for some of the dust in homes. Wash linens regularly.
Bathe pets regularly. Give them foods that encourage healthy skin so that it reduces shedding.
