Here are some tips and suggestions on how to keep your house
safe when no-one is home:
Set-up a security system. Although this can be expensive, having a security system can help you not worry much about leaving your house, especially if your neighborhood has a burglary problem. You can also have a security light installed. This light can be triggered by movement.
If you’re going out at night, or if you’re going out and would not return home until late at night, make sure that you turn on the hall or landing light and close your curtains. You can also try using a timer for your living room lamp.
Getting a dog is another way to ward off would-be burglars. So either get a dog, or post a “beware of dog” sign on your property.
Always shut your doors and windows before leaving your house, make sure that they are locked – and check them twice.
Never leave anything valuable in sight, meaning you can see them if you peek through the door or through windows. Never leave your extra house key under the floor mat, or in the mailbox, or outside for that matter. It’s like handing all your valuables to burglars.
