Leaving a Party
Leaving a party requires tact and grace. It also requires choosing the right time to thank your hosts and take your leave. So how do you do it exactly? Here are tipz on how to do it:
Check if the hosts are not busy – meaning they are not in the middle of a conversation or if they are not in the middle of cooking or serving duties.
Approach your hosts with a smile. Thank them for the invitation and don’t forget to compliment them about the party and their efforts for making it a memorable event.
Try to mention a tentative reference to a possible next meeting, whether in a professional or another social setting. One example is, “Let’s have some coffee soon.” Or, “I’ll see you in the office on Monday.” This will take the emphasis off your departure.
If the party is composed of a small number of people, acknowledge everyone in the room. If not, express your gratitude to the other guests you spent most of your time with that evening. Just try to make it short and simple. Avoid long apologies and goodbyes so that everyone could get back to the festivities.
