If you’re a landlord or an owner of a small business and you are interviewing applicants who will rent your property, or those who will fill up a position, it is inevitable, and even advisable to do a background check on the applicant first.
First thing you need to do is to have a written form ready. The applicant would fill out this form with the following information:
- the person’s full name
- current and previous address
- phone number
- Social Security Number
- driver’s license
- a list of personal reference
You must also need for the applicant to sign a release form stating that he or she is allowing to have his or her background information to be checked.
There are many companies who can do background check for you. You can sign up for an account online.
Just fill in the necessary information and pay the required amount. They will be needing a copy of the release form so make sure you have it.
This is better than doing online searches on your own, as not everything you might pull up can be true.
The company will do the background check for you and fax or e-mail you the results. While they’re doing their check, which can take as long as a few hours to days, you may now start calling the personal references that the applicant has provided. Just be sure to have your questions ready to make the call short and straight to the point.
