Making a Sandwich
Making a good sandwich takes more than slapping salami between two pieces of bread. If you want to get the most of your sandwich experience, here are some tips on how to create a perfect sandwich:
The good thing about a sandwich is that combination of breads and fillings are endless. This is by no means a recipe, but more of a guide.
Bread. There are many different breads out there, and you don’t even have to be restricted to breads. You can also use pastries, pancakes, waffles, English muffins, etc. You can also choose by ingredients such as wheat bread for a healthier sandwich. Choose by texture – crunchy, chewy, or soft. You can also opt to toast the bread first.
Fillings. We’re going to talk about the spreads or lubricants later. For now, let’s talk about the solid food stuff you insert between the bread. Again, these would really depend on your taste. You can make a dessert type of sandwich, or savory. You can put in as little or as many as you wish. However, if you wish to be “mobile” while eating, make sure it’s something that you can easily handle, otherwise you’ll need to sit down and have your sandwich on a plate and eat it with a fork and knife.
Spreads. Sandwich spreads help add flavor to the sandwich. It also acts as a lubricant so it slides down the throat better. Although there is no rule to how much spread should be put in a sandwich, you might want to factor in how it will be eaten. A soggy sandwich would not do if you plan to eat while working or doing something else as the whole thing just might fall apart.
Serving. You can toast the bread, or grill the whole sandwich. You can even bake it if you wish. You can cut off the crust, or cut it in the middle. You can eat it with a fork and knife, or you can just hold it with your hand.
