Easy Tomato Sauce
Impress anyone with this easy to cook tomato sauce recipe! It will also save you on emergencies and it even tastes better than the bottled ones out in the market. This recipe is good on its own or can be the base for other sauces.
All you will need are the following:
- olive oil
- minced or chopped garlic
- can whole tomatoes
- chopped basil
- salt and pepper
- pepper flakes (optional)
Don’t worry about the exact measurements. Just add or reduce according to your taste.
First, you heat the olive oil in a saucepan. Saute the garlic for about thirty seconds. Watch the garlic. If you burn it, you’ll have to start all over again. Burned garlic will leave a bitter taste to your sauce.
Next, open the can of whole tomatoes and add it to the pan. Stir. Bring this to a fast simmer and cook for about five minutes more.
If you have a hand blender, you can coarsely puree the tomatoes in the pan. If not, you can always mash them with a large spoon. You can also wait for it to cool a bit and puree it in a blender or food processor.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add the basil and then serve. You can put the leftovers in a clean, sterilized bottle and refrigerate.
