Making Bath Salts
Pampering yourself like having a a spa bath can do wonders for your stress level. The good news is you don’t need to spend a lot as you can do it in your own home.
Just free one evening for a relaxing bath. Unplug the phone and turn off your computer. Prepare your bathroom. Run a warm bath, light some scented candles, and play some soft, relaxing music.
For a more pampered feel, you can try adding a soothing bath salt that you made on your own to your bath water.
Prepare this well before your spa evening:
- 1/3 cup epsom salt
- Dried herbs
- Mortar and pestle
- Bowl and spoon
- Measuring cups
- A nice decorative jar
- Fragrance/ food coloring (optional)
Make sure you have everything you need with you before you start. Read on herbs and their effects when choosing. Jasmine and chamomile are good for relaxation. You may also add 2 to 3 drops of liquid food coloring to add tint to your bath salts.
Fragrance should be added with caution. Make sure that you only add safe essential oils that can be used on the skin. Anyone who is pregnant or with high blood pressure/heart disease should ask their doctors first before using bath salts.
Pour epsom salt into a mixing bowl. Add 2-3 drops of fragrance of choice and mix well.
Using the mortar and pestle, grind dried herbs to a fine powder. You can mix herbs if you want. Just use 1 tbsp for each herb. Mix the herbs into the salt thoroughly.
Transfer the salt mixture into a decorative jar. You can top it off with plain epsom salt and shake well to mix. Keep the jar lid shut tightly when not is use. Store in a dry, cool place.
Just add 2 spoonfuls to your bath while water is running. Wait for it to dissolve before bathing.
